ELMO'S STEP BY STEP ORDER GUIDE

Understanding your Filmtype

First, you need to know what kind of film you shot and what you want to send in for processing. The most common film sizes are 35mm and 120 film.

service?

Here, you'll decide what will happen to your film.

  • 35mm with Full Frame TIFF Scan: This means you shot a 35mm film, want it developed, and wish to receive your photos as a digital file for download.
  • 35mm Development Only (No Images): You shot a 35mm film and want it developed, but you don’t need digital scans. You'll only receive the negatives, which are essentially unusable until scanned or printed in a darkroom. This option only makes sense if you can digitize your film at home or have access to a darkroom.
  • 120 with Full Frame TIFF Scan: This means you shot a 120 film, want it developed, and wish to receive your photos as a digital file for download.
  • 120 Development Only (No Images): You shot a 120 film and want it developed, but you don’t need digital scans. You'll only receive the negatives, which are unusable until scanned or printed in a darkroom. This option only makes sense if you can digitize your film at home or have access to a darkroom.

Black & white, color negative or color positive?

Second, you need to know whether you shot black and white or color film. If you're unsure, check your film roll—most of the time, the type is written on the film canister (for 35mm) or backing paper (for 120 film).

Good to know:

  • B&W = Black and White
  • C-41 = Color Negative
  • E-6 = Color Positive (Slide Film)

Push or Pull?

This is a very simple explanation.

Push Processing = Shoot at a higher ISO → Develop longer → More contrast, more grain (good for low light).

Pull Processing = Shoot at a lower ISO → Develop shorter → Less contrast, finer grain (good for bright light).

If you don't know about this, chances are very high that you should choose the Standard option when ordering on our site.

The Final countdown.

After completing all the steps above, you can now finalize your order and send in or drop off your precious film rolls. Congrats!🎉
